Vehicle driven towards McDonald’s worker “wasn’t intentional”

Police who responded to a report that a vehicle had been driven towards a McDonald’s staff member have said the incident “wasn’t intentional”.

Caerphilly’s McDonald’s reopened for drive-thru only on Wednesday, June 3, with cars queuing for around an hour to get their ‘fast’ food.

By Saturday, June 6, waiting times had gone down to around 20 minutes, but police were called to a report that a person had driven towards a staff member.

Social media was abuzz with reports that someone had been arrested and that the staff member was racially abused.

However, Gwent Police has said the incident at Crossways Park “wasn’t intentional” and that there was no racial abuse involved.

In a statement, the force said: “At 1.37pm on June 6 it was reported that a vehicle had driven towards a member of staff at the Mcdonald’s in Caerphilly.

“However, when officers attended and spoke with the member of staff and the driver in question, it transpired that this wasn’t intentional.  Both parties were offered words of advice, no offences committed.”
