Three new buildings housing 15 light industrial factory units are set to be ready by the end of the year, Caerphilly County Borough Council has said.

The units are being built as part of a £2.9m expansion of the Lawns Industrial Estate in Rhymney.

The project is being funded by the council and the European Regional Development Fund through the Welsh Government.

Original plans for the area would have seen two new buildings with ten factory units.

Work on the units is being carried out by Welsh construction and civil engineering firm EnCon Construction Ltd.

Work was suspended for four weeks due to the coronavirus pandemic but has since resumed.

Keith Pritchard, site manager for Encon, said: “We are pleased to be working on this prestigious scheme with Caerphilly County Borough Council, which brings great business start-up opportunities to the area.”

Councillor Sean Morgan, deputy leader of the council and cabinet member for regeneration, said: “Supporting our local economy is particularly important during this current period of national crisis and the investment in Rhymney is warmly welcomed.

“The expansion of Lawns Industrial Estate will support the growth of existing local businesses, as well as encouraging new businesses into the area; bringing with them job opportunities for local people.”

Cllr Morgan added: “Caerphilly County Borough really is a great place to do businesses and I’d encourage prospective tenants to get in touch to find out more about the new units in Rhymney.”
