Plans for new childcare building at school backed for approval

The Twyn School

A “long overdue” plan for a new childcare building at a primary school has been recommended for approval by Caerphilly County Borough Council planners.

The proposed childcare building on the playing fields at the Twyn School in Caerphilly would cater for 48 children at full capacity. The childcare would be for children aged two and three.

A report says: “The three-year-olds will already be attending nursery and will come to childcare with the lunch time being changeover and will attend nursery and childcare half day each.”

Return of Wales’ funded childcare offer welcomed

Parents have written to the council in support of the application.

One letter said: “This is long overdue and in desperate need for many parents who have had to make less than ideal alternative arrangements due to the lack of adequate spaces current.”

Another said that the current demand for places exceeds the supply.

It said: “I believe this provision will be a great benefit to working parents as well as those seeking to return work already undertaken by the Twyn.”

One objection was received over the loss of woodland because the scheme would require several trees to be felled and the loss of an area of vegetation.

However, planners said that some area of woodland would be retained and the impact on natural heritage is acceptable.

The application will be considered by the council’s planning committee on Wednesday (August 12).

Caerphilly’s Senedd Member, Hefin David, said: “The childcare provision for three and four-year-olds at Twyn will be an important asset to the school and to working parents of young children in the catchment area.

“This is much welcomed considering the current need for additional childcare in Caerphilly.”

But no consideration for residents in the area where parking by parents accessing current schools is atrocious, this just adds another 50 plus vehicles twice a day.

Well I’m glad everyone thinks this and a microbrewery is such a great idea. Personally as a long term resident near both of these planned sites I am feeling that once again the impact on local residents already assailed by abusive parents who cause chaos parking on the road preventing me from accessing my drive, children aimlessly strolling in the midst of this chaos is completely of no concern. As regards a further retail and drinking establishment there is already an issue with young people hanging around the town without encouraging them to fuel antisocial behaviour with alcohol! We have long suffered noise, damage to property including two drunk drivers crashing into to external garden walls from the existing pubs and clubs but then what does Caerphilly County Borough Council or our local MPs care? After all I am legally obliged to pay my Council Tax so why do I matter when there’s money to be made!!

Residents of the area knew full well what should be expected of the area due to living so close to a school that there would be parents struggling to park there is no where else to park to drop our kids to school the parents find it frustrating as much as the residents about the parking heard the suggestion of using the twyn carpark but there is a ticket booth so we have to pay to collect our children and we not even half hour in the car park which we would have to pay that fee mon-fri yes it’s a small charge and there are some parents that struggle with financial difficulties which is completely unfair, also the pubs and locals you also should of known living so close to town centre that there is going to be some disturbance of people returning to their home or any music etc etc …. maybe should consider moving to a area that is far from a local town & school so you dont have them problems if its causing you so much annoyance! & I’d just like to say that I think it’s a brilliant idea to have child care facilities due to help parents with their work and help people into work with young children be every beneficial to alot of mums& dads out there that have no one to have their children for them to work to provide for their fammily … and the parking situation think it’s one for the council to try create some system with the parking so that residents & parents can be satisfied with as bringing local police or patrolling areas just making the situation worst it is not resolving the problem ?
