Work underway on storm-damaged road

The A469 between Pontlottyn and Tirphil

Work is underway to improve the safety of a road damaged by a landslip six years ago.

The A469 between Tirphil and Pontlottyn was closed for two months in 2014 to fix the damage caused during the landslip.

However, further ground movement has been detected at the site since Storm Dennis, which hit south Wales earlier this year.

As a result of the damage, the road was reduced to just one lane of traffic, with traffic lights installed.

Caerphilly County Borough Council has received funding from Welsh Government to improve the road, with work starting on Monday, August 24.

A geotechnical site investigation, which is being carried out on the road, is scheduled to be completed at the end of September.

The investigation will study the ground beneath the road, with the findings set to be analysed before a decision is made on what improvements are needed.

Current traffic restrictions on the road will remain in place while the investigation is carried out.
