Three people have been prosecuted by Caerphilly County Borough Council recently for dog fouling and littering.

Colleen Richards from Pontlottyn was taken to court and fined £175, together with £85 costs and a £15 victim surcharge. She was caught allowing her dog to foul a public area in Pontlottyn and failing to pick it up. She was handed a fixed fine originally but did not pay it and was pursued through the courts.

Similarly Victoria Reece from Graig-Y-Rhacca also was ordered to pay a fine of £175, together with £85 costs and a £15 victim surcharge for a similar offence.

David Leighton Davies from Nelson pleaded guilty to littering and was fined £60 and ordered to pay a £15 victim surcharge. He too failed to pay the original fine and ended up at Newport Magistrates’ Court.

Cllr Rob Gough, cabinet member for public protection said: “Prosecutions such as these really emphasise our commitment to tackling environmental issues such as dog fouling and littering. I hope that the small minority who feel it is acceptable to behave in such a manner will read this and understand that they will not get away with it.

“Where individuals fail to pay their fixed penalty notices, we pursue the case throughout court without exception.”
