A man who mugged two people and then attacked a police officer in Caerphilly town centre has been jailed for nearly seven years.

Nathan Edwards, of Brookland Road, Risca, appeared at Swansea Crown Court on September 25, where he was jailed for six years and 11 months.

Edwards, 31, pleaded guilty to two counts of robbery, as well as counts of actual bodily harm (ABH), assaulting an emergency worker, and possession of class A and class B drugs.

DC Matthew Pearce, of Gwent Police, said: “On Sunday, May 31 this year, Nathan Edwards carried out two robberies.  He attacked one victim with a weapon before stealing their property and fleeing the scene. 

“Later that evening, he attacked a second victim and upon arrest assaulted a police officer.”

DC Pearce welcomed the sentence and said: “I hope this sentence acts as a deterrent and reiterates that this behaviour will not be tolerated in our communities. 

“Crimes of this nature will be dealt with robustly, as demonstrated by the sentence given.”

Edwards was ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £190 within six months of release. The victim surcharge goes towards the Victim and Witness General Fund, which provides funding for victim services.
