Gerwyn Price continued his winning start to the defence of his Grand Slam of Darts title with a win over Jonny Clayton on Tuesday night (November 17).

Price, from Markham followed up his narrow win over Japan’s Mikuru Suzuki with a 5-3 win over Clayton, who hails from Llanelli.

World number three Price came from 2-0 down to earn victory.

Earlier this month, Price and Clayton teamed up to win the World Cup of Darts for Wales – the first time Wales has ever won the competition.

Speaking after his win over Clayton, Price said: “It’s never easy playing Jonny, he’s a top player and being World Cup partners we’re close.

“I wasn’t myself on the stage last night [Against Suzuki] so I had to make sure I got myself going tonight.

“I still know I can play a lot better than I did tonight and hopefully I will show my best form over the next few days.”

The win leaves Price in a healthy position in Group G, with hopes of reaching the last 16 strengthened.

Price won the competition for the first time in 2018 and retained his title in 2019. He will be looking to make it a hat-trick of consecutive Grand Slam wins this year.

Price’s next clash is with England’s Ryan Joyce on Thursday (November 19), who goes into the clash on the back of a 5-1 win over Suzuki.
