Everyone over the age of 50 will be able to get a free flu jab from Tuesday, December 1.

More than 460,000 extra vaccines have been made available to all GP practices and pharmacies in Wales.

People aged 50 and above in Wales will be contacted by their GP practice to arrange a vaccination, or they can contact their local pharmacy.

More than 750,000 vulnerable people, NHS staff and children in Wales have already received a free flu jab this year.

Of those aged 65 and above, 70% have been vaccinated.

Wales’ Health Minister, Vaughan Gething, said: “This winter, more and more people in Wales are taking-up the offer of a free flu vaccine.

“We have made great progress to protect the most vulnerable in our community and a further 460,000 people in Wales will now be able to benefit from the protection the vaccine offers them and our NHS services.”

Caerphilly’s Senedd Member, Hefin David, said: “The extension of the vaccine means that we can prevent more people becoming ill with the flu, which in turn will reduce the strain on our NHS. This is very important – especially this year.

“If you are eligible for the vaccine and haven’t had one yet, I would urge you to contact your GP and make an appointment.”

Meanwhile, Public Health Wales has confirmed it is ready to roll out potential coronavirus vaccines from December 1.

Further details of how a vaccine will be rolled out are expected on Friday, November 27.
