A carpet retailer has won planning permission to create more storage space in the Maesglas area of Newport.

Valley Wholesale Carpets Ltd applied for consent to build an extension at Unit 10 in Port Road for additional storage.

The matter appeared before Newport City Council’s planning committee, on Wednesday September 3, because the extension’s size makes it a “major” development.

Council planning officer Adam Foote said no additional retail space had been proposed at the unit.

The firm’s existing storage area was “not sufficient and is limiting their economic activity”, he added.

Committee members voted to grant planning permission, subject to several conditions.
