By-election candidates confirmed for Rogerstone North

Newport Civic Centre

Six candidates will run for a vacant Newport City Council seat in Rogerstone next month.

The by-election in Rogerstone North will be held on Thursday May 7 – the same day as the Wales-wide Senedd elections.

It follows the resignation of Cllr Chris Reeks for personal reasons.

Listed here in alphabetical order of surname, the six candidates for the council by-election are:

  • Iestyn Davies – Plaid Cymru
  • Jonathan Gibbons – Labour
  • Stewart Jones – Green Party
  • John Miller – Liberal Democrats
  • Nicholas Portman, known commonly as Nick Baneswell – Conservatives
  • Kevin Preston – Reform UK

Residents of the Rogerstone North ward have until April 20 to register to vote, which can be done online at https://www.gov.uk/register-to-vote

Applications for postal votes must reach the city council’s Electoral Registration Officer at Room 528, Civic Centre, Godfrey Road, Newport NP20 4UR by 5pm on Tuesday April 21.

To apply for a proxy vote, write to the same address by 5pm on Tuesday April 28.

Emergency proxy applications must be made by 5pm on Thursday May 7 at the same address.
