NEWPORT: Tapas bar wins bid to open new kitchen garden to supply restaurant

A tapas and wine bar in Caerleon has won planning permission for a new orchard and kitchen garden that will provide organic produce for the restaurant.

Los Reyes applied for permission to build new retaining walls and create a “naturalistic” growing space to the rear of its premises on Belmont Hill.

According to the agents for the application, the kitchen garden will “provide space for the cultivation of seasonal vegetables, herbs, and soft fruit for direct use within the restaurant, supporting a sustainable and locally focused food offer”.

The orchard, meanwhile, will “introduce a range of fruitbearing trees in a considered arrangement, providing seasonal interest, biodiversity enhancement, and long-term landscape maturity”.

“Overall, the proposal will deliver a high quality productive landscape that enhances the setting of the restaurant and brings a currently underutilised part of the site into positive use,” the agents at LRJ Planning added.

Application documents show work began on the project in November 2025, meaning planning permission is partly retrospective.
