Missing out on holiday fun was the motivation to change

Angharad Parry-John has transformed her life

Missing out on the fun during a family holiday to Tenerife was the turning point for Angharad Parry-John to start leading a healthier life.

The 44-year-old from Ystrad Mynach was unable to go on the rides at a water park and vowed to change when she got home.

Angharad explains: “Laughter and screams fill the air as families and young children enjoy one of the best waterparks in the world.

“At the back of the beach area on a shady sun lounger, I sit draped in towels despite the heat, rubbing at my ankles and trying to subtly wipe away my tears so no one can see how upset I am. I can’t fit in the rubber rings to go down the slides, I can’t walk around the park because my ankles have now swollen up like balloons.

“I’m so hot and uncomfortable and feel like everyone is laughing at me. It’s hours before I see my daughter and husband coming up the beach with huge smiles, animatedly telling me how much fun they’ve had and how awesome the rides were.

“I nod and smile, tell them how much I’ve enjoyed relaxing on the beach and inside I’m feeling the lowest I’ve ever felt.

“This was the moment I knew that I couldn’t go on. I couldn’t stay in this downward spiral, missing out on everything life was meant to be about. I stepped off the tarmac at Bristol Airport and decided I would be at Slimming World’s doors on Monday.

“I have never looked back and am now 4st 8lbs (29kg) lighter.”

Starting at 17st 6lbs (110.7kg), and now weighing 12st 12lbs (81.6kg), Angharad has seen a transformation – not only in her physical appearance, but also in her confidence.

She said: “Losing weight has had a profoundly positive impact on me. From a health perspective, shedding the extra pounds has meant more energy to keep up with family and enjoy life to the fullest. I’m now setting a positive example for my daughter and encouraging her to make healthy choices as well. Family time is now packed with memorable activities and enjoying experiences that previously would have been limited by my weight.

“My improved confidence is another significant benefit. I’m feeling comfortable in my own skin and am eager to try new things. This newfound confidence has also led me to new opportunities at work and to attend all sorts of events from conferences to rock concerts, that previously I would have shied away from.

“Adopting healthier habits as part of the Slimming World weight loss journey such as regular exercise, mindful eating, stress reduction techniques and much more, means I’m now reaping the rewards of improved overall health and well-being. My amazing consultant and our fabulous group have played a big part in embedding these new habits and overcoming my struggles along the way.

“Remember, everyone’s journey is unique, and the goal isn’t just shedding pounds but rather, embracing a healthier, more fulfilling lifestyle.”

Angharad’s local Slimming World group meets at Penallta Ruby Club on Mondays and Wednesdays.
