Slimming World consultant now ready to share her secrets to help others

Alison Jenkins, known as AJ, lost 5½ st and is now ready to help others on their journey

Alison Jenkins, who lost 5½ stone (35kg), is launching a new career helping others achieve their weight loss goals.

Alison, known as AJ, joined Slimming World in Ystrad Mynach nine years ago, dropping from 17st 2lbs (109kg) to 11st 9½lbs (74kg). Now, she’s training as a Consultant at Slimming World’s academy in Derbyshire and will launch her own group on September 2, 2025.

She said: “When I joined Slimming World, I never imagined I’d end up helping others lose weight, but now I can’t wait. After losing over 5 stone (32kg) and completing my training, I’m eager to share my experience and support members in reaching their targets.

“Support makes all the difference. Feeling you’re not alone is crucial. I couldn’t have lost 5st without my Consultant, Jo Creese, and the group behind me.

“As someone who’s been through this journey, I understand the challenges firsthand. I’ll be there to support every one of my members all the way to their chosen target weight.”

Before Slimming World, Alison said she tried countless diets but always gave up. “I convinced myself I didn’t care how I looked, but deep down I knew I wasn’t happy,” she said. “I joined because a friend was nervous about going alone. I never felt like I was on a diet – I was actually eating more than usual. After the first week, I lost 5½lbs (2.5kg).”

Cooking isn’t Alison’s passion, but Slimming World’s plan worked for her. “I hate cooking, so discovering their ready meals in Iceland was a game-changer. The plan encourages plenty of tasty, filling foods like pasta, rice, potatoes, lean meat and fish – you’re never hungry.”

She added: “Slimming World isn’t just about food. Our Body Magic programme helps members add activity at their own pace. I love swimming and beach walking. I have more energy now, and I actually like the person staring back at me in the mirror.”

Her transformation went beyond weight loss. “My confidence soared – I started wearing bright colours instead of hiding in black. Shopping for clothes became fun, and I began saying yes to social events I’d once avoided. My husband says I’m like a different person – more adventurous and energetic.”

AJ’s Slimming World group meets at Cascade Community Centre every Tuesday at 5.30pm from September 2.
