A dream home means different things to different people, but it seems the Welsh agree on the top feature they’d aspire for in theirs.

Research from Ocean Finance and Mortgages, who provide this article, has found that we’d like to make the most of the Great British sunshine here in Wales – aspiring for a summer house, garden room or conservatory.

Of the Welsh people asked, 42% said this would be their top feature – 10% more than the national average.

So how does Wales compare nationally?
Well the top dream home feature nationally was an indoor swimming pool, and the Welsh once again are more likely than the rest of the UK to want one.

40% of people in Wales aspire to have an indoor swimming pool in their dream home, compared with just over a third of people nationally.

After the North East of England, the Welsh are second most likely in Britain to aspire for an indoor swimming pool.

Work hard, play hard
Homes are for relaxing in and it seems the Welsh are the most likely in Britain to want to kick back in a bespoke snooker or games room.

One in five Welsh people responded saying they’d aspire for a snooker or games room, compared with the UK average of 16%.

A bigger garden was also high up on our agenda, with Wales and the East of England topping the regions in the UK for aspiring for one.

What else would we aspire for in our dream homes?
Here is the full list showing our top dream home aspirations in Wales and how we compare to the rest of the UK.

Ian Williams from Ocean Finance said: “There is an interesting pattern when considering what Welsh people would like in their dream homes and what is important to them.

“It seems the Welsh consider leisure time at home to be high on their agenda, with conservatories/garden room/summer houses, indoor swimming pools, bigger gardens and snooker/games rooms being some of the top responses.”

  • A new health board initiative is changing the way menopause care is delivered in GP surgeries across Gwent. The Menopause Champions Project, introduced in June this year by Aneurin Bevan University Health Board, aims to give patients going through menopause better access to informed and consistent support from their local practice teams. The scheme was developed by Dr Jayne Forrester-Paton, a menopause and sexual and reproductive health specialist, alongside Dr Michelle Olver, clinical lead of the menopause team, and nurse consultant Nikki Noble. Together, they set out to equip GPs and practice nurses with up-to-date knowledge and practical tools to improve care. So far, 41 GP practices in the region now have a trained “Menopause Champion” — a clinician who can provide advice and guidance on both hormonal and non-hormonal treatment options. These champions are backed by a network of colleagues and specialists to help them stay confident in managing more complex cases. Dr Forrester-Paton said the project had already made a strong start and would continue to grow: “We are proud of how successful this project has been so far and will continue to grow, with plans to expand educational sessions for clinicians, offer virtual case discussions to improve care for complex menopause cases and strengthen the collaboration between primary care and specialist menopause services. “The Menopause Champions Project is helping to ensure that menopause is treated with the same care and attention as any other health issue, giving patients the support they need, when they need it.”
