My loved one is in care. Can I see them this Christmas?

With Christmas fast approaching we appreciate many of you are feeling anxious about loved ones in care. Staying connected is so important to the health and wellbeing of everyone, and so we have spoken to some of the care homes we provide to get some insight into how Christmas may look this year…

Pantanas Care Centre in Treharris was a Covid Positive Home in April this year. Speaking to Manager, Mr. Hardy Bamrah, he told us how they locked down completely to reduce the risk of transmission, and how the staff moved into the home for up to two months to support the residents and reduce any further risk. They purchased iPads so residents could remain in contact with loved ones, and then later built outdoor shelters where visits are now held. They truly appreciate how important it is for the residents and their families to maintain communication. Familiar faces and sounds are extremely important to their health and wellbeing. Even some homecooked food – those familiar tastes and smells they love.

This Christmas we hope things will be no different from how they are now. Care Home Managers understand the importance of these relationships, and even more so at this time of year. There has been some time to overcome the challenges presented to them by Covid, and although the residents’ safety and wellbeing are paramount, spending time with loved ones is too.

This year we have partnered with a small company, Holly Berry Trees, to present some of our wonderful clients with a beautiful gift of a miniature Christmas tree to decorate. Adding some festive joy so the residents can bond and engage with each other, we do hope they enjoy.

We wish all of your loved ones a wonderful festive period. Please do reach out to the care home to make plans, and take loved ones gifts from home.
