Bedwas were beaten by Trebanos in a game broadcast live on S4C

Bargoed and Bedwas both narrowly missed out on silverware as late points in each of their matches made the difference.

Bedwas arrived at a sunny Principality Stadium on Sunday full of confidence as they faced Trebanos to lift the Championship Plate in front of hundreds of travelling fans.

A nervy back and forth game was ultimately decided with a Trebanos penalty kick with just two minutes left on the clock as Trebanos claimed the spoils, winning 23-21.

Meanwhile, Bargoed battled Neath for the Championship Cup. The pair are also currently first and second in the Admiral National League Championship.

Bargoed started off the quicker of the two sides and took a 13-3 lead into the half. A scoreless second half from Bargoed however opened the door to Neath who capitalised and took the trophy, running out 16-13 winners.

Bargoed club secretary Huw Evans told the Caerphilly Observer his thoughts on the trip.

“The day itself was excellent. The Welsh Rugby Union did a great job in sorting the event out, it’s just a shame about the result.

“It was the first time that we’ve been to the stadium as a club and it was a day to remember for all involved.”

A great effort by both Bargoed and Bedwas who unfortunately came up just short on this occasion.

There are several other teams within the borough who are set to play in the Principality Stadium over the next week.
