Bedwas managed to get through to round-two following a win over St Peters

Teams from across Caerphilly County Borough were given a break from league action, as they kicked-off their cup campaigns on Saturday September 23.

In the Championship Cup, Bedwas travelled to St Peters, who they beat in a league fixture the weekend previous. It was success again for Bedwas, who ran out comfortable 48-23 winners.

Elsewhere, it was an all Caerphilly affair as Cross Keys hosted Bargoed. The game came down to the wire but Bargoed managed to secure the win, 28-31.

There were byes for Penallta and Newbridge who now await their opponents in round-two.

In the Division One Cup, there were no games for Nelson, Ynysddu, Senghenydd, or Risca.

There were games for sides in the Division Two Cup, however. Caerphilly picked up a 27-23 win on the road against Cowbridge, but it was disappointment for Blackwood, who lost 25-17 away to Garndiffaith.

Oakdale also suffered a narrow road defeat to Pill Harriers, 25-22.

Down in the Division Three Cup, there was a mixed bag of results for sides across the borough.

Machen lost 21-15 in a low scoring tie away to Penygraig whereas Abertysswg Falcons managed an impressive 34-3 win over Ebbw Vale.

Meanwhile, Abercarn lost at home 17-20 to Blaina. They’ll be looking forward to returning to league action where they sit atop of division three.

In the Division Four Cup, Crumlin suffered their first loss of the season at home to New Panteg 15-16.

There was also disappointment for Hafodyrynys who were well beaten 35-17 away to Caerau Ely.

A bad weekend all-round for the division four sides, Blackwood Stars lost to St Julians HSOB 34-29 and Bedwellty’s match against Pontycymmer was postponed.

Finally in the Division Five Cup, neither Trinant or Cwmcarn United got out onto the field, but Hollybush dismantled West Mon on the road 32-5 and Deri destroyed Beaufort 47-0 to book their spot in the next round.

There was also success for Pontllanfraith who beat Llandrindod Wells 39-21.
