Bedwas suffered their third defeat in a row with a loss to Glamorgan Wanderers
Bedwas suffered their third defeat in a row with a loss to Glamorgan Wanderers

Bargoed strengthened their grip at the top of the WRU National Championship East as bad weather threatened club rugby games across south Wales.

The Bulls obliterated Beddau 74-7 at home on Saturday October 21 to make it five wins in their opening six games.

There was disappointment elsewhere in the division, Cross Keys lost on the road to Cardiff Met 40-34 in a high-scoring tie and Bedwas recorded their third loss in as many games, this time 37-12 away to Glamorgan Wanderers.

Dropping down a division to League One East, there was more bad news for Caerphilly-based sides.

After a good win against rivals Senghenydd last week, Nelson lost at home 13-23 to Talywain. Senghenydd failed to bounce back from their defeat, a 38-14 loss to Dowlais means they sit four points outside the promotion spots.

Risca’s woes continued, a 17-27 loss at home to Pontypool United keeps them glued to the bottom of the table on two points with no wins.

There was more positive news down in League Two East however, Blackwood now sit just outside the promotion slots after a hard-fought 25-24 win away to Usk.

Oakdale’s game was postponed due to bad weather.

Caerphilly notched-up another win, this time over Cowbridge 48-5. They’re sitting pretty in third and just four points off top in League Two East Central.

In League Three East, Rhymney moved-up into second with a 38-12 win over RTB Ebbw Vale. Abertysswg Falcons also bounced back after a derby loss last week to thrash Llanhilleth 48-3 on the road.

Fleur De Lys also won after having their game called-off last week, a 46-28 victory over Nantyglo moves them up into fifth.

Abercarn were the stand-out side however, a 42-20 win over Machen means they’re six from six and top of the division.

Down in League Four East, a derby between Bedwellty and unbeaten Crumlin kicked things off, with hosts Bedwellty coming out on top, 20-19.

New Tredegar suffered another loss, this time to Whiteheads 32-23, putting them in danger this season.

Blackwood Stars returned to winning ways with a narrow 21-20 win away to Hafodyrynys.

There was just the one game played in League Five East, where Pontllanfraith extended their lead at the top to five points with a 19-5 victory over Forgeside.

In Division Six East, only two games went ahead. For Cwmcarn United, they’d wish it hadn’t. They were thoroughly beaten 60-3 at home to Tredegar Ironsides.

Trinant too will want that game back. On the road, they only managed to score six points in a 7-6 loss to Hartridge.
