Trethomas Bluebirds have been crowned champions of the Ardal South East, and have clinched promotion to the second tier of Welsh football.
In what was a historic night for the Bluebirds, the league leaders came into the match knowing they needed just three points to lift the title after a remarkable season in which they lost only one league game.
On Tuesday May 7, Trethomas did exactly that away from home, beating Treowen Stars 3-0 to scenes of celebrations from everyone involved at the club.
There were plenty of nerves on the sidelines ahead of kick-off, with the travelling fans knowing a slip here would mean a result would most likely be needed in the Bluebirds’ final game against title rivals Newport City.
It was business as usual from Trethomas on the pitch however, and like they had done all season, the Bluebirds dominated from early on.
A James Young goal after 25 minutes calmed things down before Gareth Tedstone doubled the visitors’ lead before half-time.
After a very edgy 3-2 win away to Caldicot last Saturday however, the Bluebirds took nothing for granted in the second-half.
The killer third goal from Levi Rees after 70 minutes was the one which brought the biggest celebrations, with everyone feeling like the game was won.
It was won, as coaches, parents, and fans flooded the field at full-time to celebrate with the players who had been outstanding all season.
Bluebirds manager Mark Dunford spoke to Caerphilly Observer after the win and said: “Its been three years of blood, sweat, and tears since I took over.
“In that time we’ve won the Ardal Cup, Amateur Trophy and now the league. I’m over the moon.”

Asked about the key to their success this season, Dunford added: “I go back to what we worked on in the summer, where we changed how we can affect a football match in possession.
“I give huge credit to my assistant manager Matthew Jones for working so hard helping me with that too.
“I think it has gone a long way in helping us be a better side and control a football match.”
Dunford had a lot of praise for his team too, explaining his recruitment policy has been to sign boys with “good character” over anything else.
“These boys don’t miss a training session. The commitment they’ve shown this season has been unbelievable.”
The Bluebirds manager also thanked everyone else at the football club including the committee, supporters, staff, medical and kit team, and chairman Dave Evans for his and his family’s support.
He added: “Lastly I’d like to give a heartfelt thank you to my Mum and Dad for everything they’ve done for me over the years, and to my wife Hanna and daughters Ruby and Rosie for their support and for enduring the stress I have put them through over the last few months.

“They truly sacrifice a lot to allow me to do what I do.”
Chairman Dave Evans also spoke to Caerphilly Observer after the 3-0 win and said: “It’s been a long hard four years but this is a testament to the belief and work that these players and staff have put in.
“It’s been a long project but it’s all been worth it in the end and we’re really excited to play in the Cymru South.”
