Bedwas and Trethomas bowls claim big win over Pontymister Athletic

Pontymister secured another narrow victory
Pontymister Athletic lost out to Bedwas and Trethomas

In a Gwent Bowling League division one match, Bedwas and Trethomas closed the gap on table-toppers Monmouth with a 63-41 victory over rivals Pontymister Athletic.

Expecting a tough game against an in-form Trethomas and Bedwas side, Pontymister made the short journey on Saturday July 20 and were under pressure from the off.

Rink one saw Richie Beaugie, Allan Elliot, captain Ian Collier, and Graham Smith take on the home four of C. Brown, R. Cheeseman, R. Norman and skip K. James.

The home team were far to good for the Mister Men on the day, and ran out comfortable 13-shot winners.

Rink two brought together a strong Ponty four in Nick Harris, Shaun Kenvyn, Keith Richards and Jack Collier, up against D. Littlewood, J. Lewis, S. Killcourse and Mal Williams.

In the early stages, Mal was changing heads and Bedwas built a substantial lead, but Pontymister rallied and at one point cut the deficit to four, only to fall at the last and lose by seven.

Over on rink three, John Sheldon, Richie Jones, Alan Taylor and Tom Guy took on the Bedwas four of R. Smallwood, D.T. Jones, A. Smith and skip N. Rogers. 

Again, falling behind early on the Mister Men fought back but unfortunately ran out of ends losing by two shots.

A disappointing day for Pontymister means they sit third, four points behind Bedwas and Trethomas who are two points from top.
