In a Monmouthshire Bowling Association match-up, Pontymister Athletic Bowls claimed a comprehensive 110 to 64 away victory to Newbridge.

After a fast start for the hosts, who led after five ends, the Mister Men soon fought back to close the gap and then take the lead. The visitors built on that to eventually claim a 46 shot win and take all 12 points.

On rink two, Shaun Kenvyn came in at lead and was joined by Ken McKinnon, the versatile Frank Trepleton and Andrew Goodwyn who faced J. Churcher, captain K. Lane, P. Haines and D. Morgan.

After a slow start, the Ponty rink fought back with a well timed seven that edged them into the lead and once in front they never looked like losing, recording a seven shot victory.

Rink three saw Chris Simmons joined by the returning Graham Smith, Richie Murphy and skip Dave Hill and they took on Paul Blanche, D. Thomas, Steve Hughes and A. O’Keefe.

Rink four saw a switch up front from Phil Huntley to lead and Mike Lyons to second where they were joined by Chris Beale and Roger Venn.

They played a very experienced Newbridge four of Paul Hinder, P. Churcher, G. Banwell and C. Cridland.

The game started well for the home team and they raced into a ten shot lead, but Huntley and Lyons started  to find their range and set the platform for victory, winning ten of the last 12 ends with Roger Venn scoring with virtually every bowl he bowled, and recording a 13 shot victory.

Finally on rink five, Eamon Simmons, Sid Phillips, captain Lloyd Turnbull and Ronnie Morgan played the well fancied rink of JJ, D. Thomas, M. Dowden and Eddie Harding.

The Mister Men were on it from the start, and completely dominated the home side with some brilliant bowls and recorded a massive 41-13 victory which took all the pressure off the other three rinks and ensured victory.
