The walking football side were crowned champions of division three

Caerphilly Castle Ladies and Girls FC’s walking football section have won silverware – and flown the flag for Wales in the process.

The club has won the Thames Valley League as the only Welsh side in the division.

Coach Bethan Bushen told Caerphilly Observer how “thrilled” the team are with the achievement, winning division three with a game in hand.

Speaking to Caerphilly Observer, she said: “This victory means so much to us, we couldn’t be prouder. Going into the final round of fixtures, we were six points clear at the top with five to play.

“We knew we had to stay focused, and despite nerves getting the better of us in the first match, we dug deep and gained momentum as the day went on.

“By the time we reached our last match, we had already done enough to be crowned champions, but still gave it our all and scored a winner through Colleen O’Connor. It was an unforgettable moment for the team.”

Caerphilly were the only Welsh side in the division

Led by Captain Anna Matheson and Vice-Captain Amy Ryan – who was superb in goal – the rest of the side included Kate Lloyd, Mandy Beach, Rachel Roberts, Kay Pritchard, Colleen O’Connor, and Jo Caddy.

Every single player played a crucial role in the success of the side, according to Bushen.

She added: “This league has been an incredible experience, filled with great matches, lots of goals, and a real sense of community. We’re so proud to be part of it and can’t wait to see what comes next.”
