A total of 260 girls from across Caerphilly County Borough came together for a girls’ football festival – with 23 schools involved.

The seven-a-side event, which featured 26 teams, was held at the Centre for Sporting Excellence in Ystrad Mynach on Thursday March 5.

No winners were declared on the day, with event organisers Caerphilly County Borough Council prioritising experience over competition.

Students from Coleg y Cymoedd supported the event as volunteers and helped organise it.

Councillor Chris Morgan, council cabinet member for leisure, said: “Seeing 260 girls taking part in football at one event is fantastic. The atmosphere throughout the day was brilliant and it was great to witness so much teamwork and enjoyment.

“Opportunities like this are so important in helping young people build confidence, develop skills and discover a lifelong enjoyment of being active.”
