
In Division Two, Newbridge firsts bowled out visitors Rogerstone Welfare firsts for 146 before romping home in 33 overs with two wickets to spare, including an unbeaten 80 for opener James Morgan.
The win puts Newbridge fourth in the table.
There were losses for the borough’s two Division Three sides – Blackwood Town firsts made 238/7 at home to Creigiau firsts, but the visitors successfully chased down that total with 11 balls and four wickets remaining.
Machen firsts struggled away to Penarth seconds, where the hosts posted 218/9 after being sent in to bat first.
In reply, Machen were bowled out for 122. The defeat leaves them eighth in the table, while Blackwood Town are in sixth.
Pontymister and Crosskeys firsts narrowly lost a tense Division Four match at home to Abergavenny seconds.
The hosts were all out for 186, including 81 for opener Dhruv Bhatt, but despite taking steady wickets were unable to stop Abergavenny chasing down their total with one wicket to spare.
The narrow defeat leaves the hosts sixth in the table.
Elsewhere in the division, Crumlin firsts suffered a heavy defeat at home to Sully Centurions firsts and sit bottom of the standings.
After being bowled out for 82, the hosts were unable to stop their opponents crashing their way to 85/2 inside 14 overs.
Abercarn firsts found it difficult to make inroads at home to Undy and Magor who, batting first, reached 234/3 – but half-centuries from Noah Parsons and Jeremy Parsons helped propel the hosts to victory, reaching 237/8 with three balls remaining.
The win puts Abercarn fourth in Division Seven.
There was another defeat in Division 11 for Cefn Fforest and Maesycwmmer firsts, who were bowled out away to Creigiau seconds for 156, before the hosts chased down their target for the loss of four wickets, meaning the borough side remain bottom of the table.
