Jets Fest returns as Penallta RFC hosts rugby league showcase

Penallta RFC will host the second Jets Fest next month, bringing together hundreds of rugby league players from across Wales and England for a day of matches and family entertainment.

Following the success of the inaugural event in Ammanford last summer, Jets Fest II will take place on Saturday July 4.

Organisers are expecting more than 400 players to take part across 20 matches scheduled over ten hours on three pitches, with fixtures involving Ystrad Mynach-based South Wales Jets, Aber Valley Wolves, West Wales Jets, Rhondda Outlaws, Torfaen Tigers, Swansea Rams, Cardiff Blue Dragons, and visitors from England, Culcheth Eagles.

One of the standout fixtures of the day will be the first-ever girls’ club rugby league match between two Welsh sides, as South Wales Jets face Aber Valley Wolves at Under-12 level.

The action gets underway at 9.30am with South Wales Jets Under-13 Greens taking on Rhondda Outlaws, while the festival concludes with the South Wales Jets men’s team facing Rhondda Outlaws in the JES Rugby League Conference at 5.30pm.

Other highlights include South Wales Jets Girls Under-14s taking on Culcheth Eagles, while representative sides from South Wales Jets and West Wales Jets will meet at several age groups throughout the day.

Representatives from the club’s women’s and wheelchair teams are also expected to attend and support the event.

Away from the rugby, organisers are promising a family-friendly atmosphere with food and drink available throughout the day, alongside music, inflatables and entertainment.

A spokesperson for the club said: “Last year’s event was incredible. This year we’re going bigger, louder and better.”

The festival takes place at Penallta RFC and organisers are advising visitors to allow extra time for travel due to Pride Caerffili taking place on the same day.

Advance tickets are available online, with prices set to increase on the day.
