Ten young darts players from Markham Darts Academy returned home with three trophies after competing in a regional grand finals tournament in Berkshire.
The under-18 squad beat Hampshire Youth 6-3 in the team grand final in Burghfield, near Reading, after winning their group section.
The victory capped a successful weekend for the academy, which was set up in 2020 by Markham’s very own Gerwyn Price and long-time mentor John Mullen.
Standout player Jack Powell secured a treble of titles at the event. Powell teamed up with Callum Smith to win the pairs tournament, defeating a Devon pair in the semi-final before beating Essex Youth in the final.
Powell then went on to win the under-18 boys singles Champion of Champions title, defeating Glamorgan Youth’s Ethan Parry 3-1 in the final.
In the girls’ singles competition, Abbie Whitty reached the semi-finals.
The ten-player squad also included Ryan Harris, Ryan Dando, Rhylee Mansfield, Jenson Ellaway, Mason Griffiths, Lucas Milligan, and Charlie Lloyd.
John Mullen, who runs the academy in Markham, said: “This achievement has been built on hard work from all our players and the rest of the county squad.
“A huge thank you goes to our coaches, parents, and sponsors for their help and support.”
The academy, which officially opened its doors in September 2021, currently trains more than 100 children and teenagers.
