The Wales Wheelchair Rugby League team has raised £5,000 towards its £10,000 target to fund its trip to the World Cup in Australia this October.

The squad launched the ‘10,000 x £1 = CYMRU‘ appeal to help cover essential costs for the tournament, including excess baggage fees for 15 specialized wheelchairs, medical supplies, insurance, and travel expenses.

Head coach Alan Caron said the milestone showed strong support, but stressed the squad still needs to secure the remaining funds before departing.

“This is a fantastic milestone for us and everyone involved with Wales Wheelchair Rugby League,” he said. “To see the campaign reach £5,000 shows just how much support there is for this team.

“But we don’t want to stop at halfway. We have another £5,000 to raise, so we’re asking everyone to keep spreading the word and help us reach that £10,000 target.

“Every pound makes a difference and every person who gets behind Cymru is helping this squad prepare for the World Cup.”

The money raised will cover costs not met by governing bodies, including minibus fuel, travel to UK airports, accommodation before departure, and spare wheelchair parts needed during the competition.

Wales have been drawn in Group A at the World Cup, which is being held in Wollongong, and will face England, Ireland, and the USA.
