A last minute try sealed a home victory for Bedwas in a competitive preseason friendly.

Both sides made many changes to field different fifteens in both halves as coaches looked at new recruits and combinations.

Bedwas opened up an early lead courtesy of a Gary Wilkes try, improved upon by Richard Powell. Nine minutes later Moseley equalised following good play by their backs Anthony Carter crossed for a try converted by Glyn Hughes.

Moseley then eased in front courtesy of an unconverted try by flying wing Anders Mogenson.

Bedwas pressure saw Moseley forward Adam Powell sin binned for a ruck offence, Bedwas back rower Aaron Harris making the superior numbers count with an unconverted try before Hughes edged Moseley back in front with a penalty goal to lead 15-14 at the break.

Both sides made a raft of changes for the second half.

Bedwas were immediately on the front foot and scrum half Tom Rowlands raced through for an unconverted try out wide. Bedwas winger Rory Budina caught the restart and raced through the visiting backline for a try, Ethan Davies added the extras.

Moseley hit back running the ball pace and Mogensen added a second try (unconverted), Bedwas should have increased their lead but failed to take a great opportunity before Greg King crossed for Moseley. The visitors were dominant at this stage and Ollie Thomas’s try put them further ahead, crucially both tries were unconverted. A second Thomas try this time converted by Hughes saw the visiting in the box seat at 26-37 ahead.

Bedwas didn’t give up and right wing Tom James added a try, converted by Ethan Davies to close the gap to four points and Bedwas turned the screw and Moseley’s discipline went resulting in a second sin binning. A series of five metre scrum eventually saw Bedwas get the deciding score through hard working centre Matthew John for a 38-37 victory.
