Bedwas bounced back from the poor performance at Bridgend to hand out a seven try mauling of bottom club Swansea and in doing so racked up what is believed to be their biggest winning margin since joining the Premier Division in 2003.
Bedwas started at a very fast pace and posted a try after only eight minutes through Matthew John, Lewis Robling confidently added the extras. Bedwas continue to dominate possession and further chances could have been taken to extend the lead. Robling extended the lead via a penalty after Swansea were penalised at a scrum.
John added his second try after 22 minutes again converted by Robling as Bedwas turned the screw. Swansea looked dangerous at times with ball in hand but all too often lost possession as Bedwas defended strongly.
Nicky Thomas landed a penalty after the half hour to give his side a boost but Bedwas were in no mood to relinquish their grip on the lead.
The second half began in heavy rain. It took the visitors barely three to extend their lead, Scott Williams kicked through to towards the in goal area and as the covering Swansea defender dithered hoping the ball was going dead Williams raced through and touched down for an opportunist try. Robling again converted.
Five minutes later Robling broke through some poor tackling for a try of his own although he was unsuccessful with his conversion.
With the four try bonus point secured Bedwas made several changes.
Rory Budina was sin binned for not releasing but Swansea were unable to make the extra man count as two Matthew Pewtner tries in the space of three minutes either side of the hour mark put the tie out of reach. Robling successfully converted both.
Swansea tried to get back into the game as Bedwas took their foot of the gas but they could not penetrate the visiting defence.
Lewis Hudd cruised through for Bedwas’ seventh and final try just shy of the full time whistle, Robling added the conversion for a 20 point haul as Bedwas won at Swansea for the first time in ten attempts.
Bedwas will have to recover quickly as they travel to Parc y Scarlets, Llanelli on Saturday 13 April, kick off 2.30pm.
