ROARING: Coed Duon Dragons in action on their way to the cup final

A Blackwood girls football team face the biggest match of their five year history this weekend, when they play in the  FAW Under-16 Girls Cup final.

Coed Duon Dragons will play Prestatyn Town at Newtown, Powys on Sunday April 26 after beating last year’s champions Caernarfon Town in extra time in the semi-final.

The girls go into the final, which has been re-scheduled from April 5, second in the league, with a 100% cup record.

Simon Thomas, managing director of team sponsors Asset International said:“It is wonderful to see the hard work of such a young team paying off.  They have demonstrated relentless determination, and great team spirit.  We wish them all the best for the final.’’

Club Secretary Shaun Kalies said: “The girls are very confident, but it’s all down to what happens on the day.”

• Since publication the final has been postponed until May 10.
