Skittles: Caerphilly team are top gun at inter-county tournament

Sport | | Published: 09:35, Monday June 29th, 2015.

A team of Caerphilly skittlers have won a huge inter-county tournament for a second time in four years.

The 49ers who play out of the Caerphilly Social Club have attended the same tournament for the last four years, coming first, third and fifth.

Somewhat prophetically, the team chose to wear Top Gun outfits for the Saturday night party during the tournament.

This year’s competition staged at Weston-Super-Mare involved 44 teams travelling from Cardiff, Newport, Penarth, Herefordshire, Worcester, Gloucester, Devon, Somerset, in a series of tournaments organized by Serious About Events of Torquay who also stage the Butcombe British Skittles Championships.

Twelve teams made it through to the finals with the 49ers narrowly beating their nearest rivals, the Triers from Cardiff by just two points.

Final score for the 49ers was 417 with the Triers just two points behind on 415.
