Rugby Union: Bedwas star signs professional deal with Newport Gwent Dragons

Sport | | Published: 14:03, Friday December 9th, 2016.

Bedwas back-row star, Robson Blake, has signed a dual contract with regional side Newport Gwent Dragons, the Principality Premiership side has announced.

Blake’s new contract will see him shared between Bedwas and the Rodney Parade outfit for the rest of the season, before taking up a professional contract solely with the Dragons from next season.

The 21-year-old No8 has enjoyed notable success since joining Bedwas from Bedlinog at the start of the season, becoming an integral part of the club’s rise up the Premiership table and winning the league’s Player of the Month award in October.

Blake also featured for the Dragons in their Anglo-Welsh Cup match against Leicester Tigers on Saturday November 12.

Bedwas RFC Head Coach, Steve Law said: “We always thought that Robson would be better than your standard Premiership player. A number of the regions had been looking at him and the Dragons have made a smart call in signing him.

“He was born with a rugby brain. We’ve pushed him as a club to develop, but more importantly, he has pushed himself and now he’s being recognised for that.

“He is naturally strong and powerful and working with the Dragons will help him further improve his strength and conditioning.”
