A tennis club welcomed sporting royalty to its courts as it unveiled major renovations.
Judy Murray, coach and mother of former Wimbledon champions and world number one players Andy and Jamie, cut the ribbon at Caerphilly Tennis Club’s revamped premises on Tuesday, October 10.
Surrounded by members young and old, Ms Murray unveiled a plaque at the club before taking a session on the newly laid courts at Virginia Park.
Jonathan Morgan, the club’s head coach, said: “We were thrilled to welcome Judy to the club to formally re-open our facilities.
“With over 130 weekly participants, we always strive to provide the best club experience possible for current and new members and we are always looking for new people to join us at Caerphilly Tennis Club.”
Rosanna Meyrick, 17, from Caerphilly, added: “It was a great experience to meet Judy and she signed my copy of her autobiography, which was lovely.
“For her to re-open the club after the developments and see what we have accomplished was a real boost. We played fun competition in teams and learned new skills, and I really enjoyed it.”
Peter Drew, chief executive at Tennis Wales said: “On behalf of Tennis Wales, I’d like to take this opportunity to congratulate Caerphilly Tennis Club on their recent refurbishment.
“With the dedication and commitment of coaching staff and its volunteers and members, we are thrilled to see so many people taking up tennis and continuing it surrounded by friends and family members.”
