A newly-formed boxing club is benefiting from the generosity of ten local businesses after receiving enough donations to lay padded flooring in the gym.

Caerphilly Boxing Club opened its doors at the disused former care centre opposite Caerphilly railway station in July and has seen unprecedented levels of interest, with both adult and children’s classes having full waiting lists.

The brainchild of Plaid Cymru’s Penyrheol councillor, Jon Scriven, the club put out a call for donations to help pay for the final floor sections.

Ten local businesses came forward to help raise the £1,000 needed, including Trecenydd Snooker and Sports Club, The Drain Doctors, and Woodford’s Auto Body Repairs.

Cllr Scriven said: “We’ve been simply blown away with the help and support we have received from local businesses. A massive thank you to all.”
