Headline figure shows 31 new coronavirus cases in borough

The latest headline figure from Public Health Wales shows 31 new cases of Covid-19 in Caerphilly County Borough – the highest figure in Wales.

Due to “high levels of demand”, people have been waiting up to three hours to be tested.

Bedwas Infants School, Playworks Early Days Nursery and the Fisherman’s Rest have all posted updates on social media.

Twenty-one pupils at St Gwladys Primary School, in Bargoed, have been told to self-isolate after a staff member tested positive for coronavirus.

The powers that be have warned that lockdown restrictions could return to Caerphilly County Borough if a spike in coronavirus cases is not contained.

It comes after an increase in reported cases in Caerphilly County Borough, which has the highest number of new cases in Wales in the last seven days.

Bargoed councillor Carol Andrews has been named as the new mayor of Caerphilly County Borough.

More cases of coronavirus have been recorded in Caerphilly in the last seven days than in any other county in Wales.

A walk-in test centre will be set up at Caerphilly leisure centre due to the increase in Covid-19 cases in the borough.

There have been 46 new confirmed cases of coronavirus recorded in the borough in the last week. Only Cardiff has seen more cases.
