New council rent policy could help people saving for home deposit

Prospective homeowners who are struggling to save for a deposit may benefit from a new rental policy in Caerphilly County Borough.

Construction work on the projects began at Islwyn High School, in Oakdale, on Monday October 27 – with completion expected in the new year.

A developer will have another three years to produce final plans for a housing development on the site of Oakdale Comprehensive School.

Spades are in the ground as 92 ‘eco homes’ are set to be built on the former site of Oakdale Comprehensive School.

Senior councillors have backed the release of up to £145,000 of funding for a new all-weather sports facility in Oakdale.

The current multi-use games area at Oakdale’s former comprehensive school site has to be moved to make way for a new 82-home housing development.

Planning permission has already been granted for 82 homes on the former Oakdale Comprehensive School site.

Housing developments on the former Oakdale Comprehensive and the former Ty Darran site in Risca have been backed by senior councillors.

The council’s planning committee has given its unanimous approval to the redevelopment of the former Oakdale Comprehensive School site.

Council leader Cllr Philippa Marsden, has described the plans as a “flagship development” which will be used as a blueprint for future developments.
