I’m delighted to be given the opportunity to write a regular column for Caerphilly Observer’s growing readership. With traditional media facing declines in circulation, it is vital that alternative forms of information are available to those who don’t read or buy newspapers.
I firmly believe there is a place for a comprehensive and local online news service such as that provided by the Observer, particularly as it covers both parts of the county borough – the old Rhymney Valley and Islwyn areas. It is vital for local democracy that we have a thriving media – in traditional newspapers, radio and TV and online.

Save Caerphilly police station petition growing
Almost 450 people have signed an online petition to save Caerphilly town police station from closure and Lindsay Whittle, leader of Caerphilly County Borough Council, is urging more people to sign up.
Councillor Whittle, who is also Plaid’s Prospective Parliamentary Candidate for Caerphilly, said: “I’m pleased at the response of the public to the online petition and I would urge as many people as possible to sign up and send a message out that Caerphilly station must not be shut.
“The more support we can gather the greater the possibility of saving Caerphilly Police Station.”
