Police are appealing for information after thousands of pounds worth of damage was caused to equipment at Newbridge Cricket Club.

Vandals targeted the club’s home, the Welfare Ground, on Bridge Street, overnight on Friday July 22.

A barbecue and pitch covers were damaged, totally around £6,500.

Newbridge’s match on Saturday July 23 against Abergavenny went ahead as planned.

Risca Inspector, Jason White said: “During the morning of Saturday July 23, police received a report of damage at the Cricket Club, Welfare Grounds in Newbridge.

“This appears to be an isolated incident, albeit I am aware that large groups of youths congregate in that area during the evening on weekends.

“Enquiries continue to be on-going in the locality with officers speaking to residents and businesses.

“Dedicated patrols will be undertaken within the area during the relevant times to both reassure the community and to deal with any offenders in a positive manner.

“Anyone with any information can call Gwent Police on 101, quoting log number: 186 23/07/16”
