Vandals behind the “completely unacceptable” criminal damage at a rugby field will be prosecuted, police have warned.

Railings around the Bargoed Park rugby pitch, where Bargoed RFC play, were damaged, while smashed glass – believed to be from broken bottles – was left strewn across the park.

A group of around 30 to 40 youths were seen in the area at around 5.20pm on Friday, March 19.

Gwent Police has said it will be reviewing CCTV footage of the area to find those responsible

Sergeant Richard Tovey, of Gwent Police, said: “This behaviour is completely unacceptable and we will be contacting the landowner as part of our enquiries.

“Anyone identified as committing an act of antisocial behaviour during this incident will be prosecuted. We will speak to our partner agencies also to see if any other enforcement is necessary.

“Antisocial behaviour negatively impacts upon the quality of life for residents. It is not acceptable within our communities.”

He added: “I would like to thank the members of the public who have helped with cleaning up the glass left behind by these individuals who believe it is acceptable to cause damage to our open public spaces and to drop litter.

“We’re keen to get the message out to parents to help us by ensuring they know where their children are, and what they are doing.

“I would urge anyone with any information relating to the identity of those responsible to call us on 101 or contact local neighbourhood officers.”

Gwent Police has urged anyone who has information that could help the investigation to come forward.

The force has also appealed for anyone with CCTV or dashcam footage of the area to contact them on 101, quoting log reference 2100099915.

Gwent Police can also be contacted through direct message on Facebook or Twitter, while Crimestoppers can be contacted anonymously on 0800 555 111.
