A mountain biker had to be carried to a waiting ambulance by members of the Central Beacons Mountain Rescue Team after falling from his bike at speed and hitting a tree.
Emergency services were called at 7.25pm to Cwmcarn Forest on Tuesday, April 13.
In a post on its Facebook page, the Central Beacons Mountain Rescue Team said Gwent Police, The Welsh Ambulance Service and a fire crew crew from Abercarn all attended and helped carry the casualty.
It read: “Our team doctor treated the gentleman for potential neck and pelvic injuries. Working on steep ground in the trees we carefully administered pain relief, immobilised him in our vacuum mattress, placed him on our stretcher, then carried him off the mountain to the awaiting Welsh Ambulance Services NHS Trust. We wish the gentlemen a full and speedy recovery.”
A friend of the biker thanked the team for their efforts in a reply to the post.
Phil Callaghan wrote: “Thankyou so much for all your help in getting my friend off the mountain. All the emergency services did a marvellous job. Very much appreciated. Early signs from the hospital are encouraging. [He] has sustained fractured ribs and scans haven’t shown anything more serious. Keeping him in to monitor pain and mobility. Thank you all once again for your dedication and help.”
