On Our Doorstep – Ar Ein Rhiniog will be the working title of a new successful arts grant bid submitted by Aber Valley arts group Undercurrents.

Councillor John Roberts, who represents the Aber Valley, said: “Grant bids like this aren’t given willy-nilly. They take a lot of time and effort.

“They need to show clear purpose and positive ambitions in their aims and objectives. It looks as if we’ve got one for the Aber Valley and I’m as happy as a clam.

“Here at the Aber Valley we’ve been working on an interesting idea which has been well-received and supported, and we’re getting ready to run with it.”

Aber Valley councillor to step down due to health reasons

Undercurrents Arts Group, in partnership with Caerphilly County Borough Council’s Arts Development and not–for-profit visual arts organisation Addo Creative, will be working with artists, groups and individuals in mapping out Aber Valley’s cultural, social and environmental assets and looking into its told and untold stories through the ages, with the view of using what’s found to develop further beneficial community scheme’s for the area’s future.

The Arts Council were looking for well thought-out, ambitious artist-led projects that can engage local communities in identifying ways of using cultural connections to bring potential benefits into that community, and the Aber Valley one fitted the bill.
