Eleri Thomas MBE has been reappointed as the Deputy Police and Crime Commissioner for Gwent.

Ms Thomas, who was first appointed as deputy in 2016, has been reappointed to the role by Gwent Police and Crime Commissioner Jeff Cuthbert, who was himself re-elected for a second term earlier this month.

Ms Thomas’ reappointment was confirmed at a meeting of the Gwent Police and Crime Panel on Thursday.

Her role includes work on children and young people, as well as looking into violence against women, domestic abuse and sexual violence.

After her reappointment was confirmed, Ms Thomas said: “Working together with Gwent Police, we have driven some hugely successful initiatives over the last five years that have greatly improved services for children and young people, as well as vulnerable victims of crime.

Gwent PCC Jeff Cuthbert: “It is an honour to be chosen to represent the people of Caerphilly”

“We have much more to do and I look forward to being able to continue this very important work.”

A former head of the charity Save The Children Wales, Ms Thomas was awarded an MBE in 2009 for her services to children and young people.

She has also worked as the Deputy Children’s Commissioner for Wales.

Gwent PCC Mr Cuthbert said: “Eleri’s hard work and dedication to supporting the most vulnerable people in our communities is to be commended and I am delighted to be able to reappoint her to continue her work for another term.”
