Coronavirus vaccine

More than one million people in Wales have now had both coronavirus vaccine doses.

In total, 1,000,706 people have had both doses, figures released by Public Health Wales show.

Meanwhile, more than two million people have received at least one dose.

Around 80% of Wales’ adult population has had their first dose, while more than one in three have had both.

Earlier this year, the Welsh Government set itself the target of offering everyone eligible a vaccine appointment before July 31.

The Welsh Government has said it remains on course to meet this target.

Wales’ Health Minister, Eluned Morgan, said: “This week has been another week of real progress for our vaccination programme. Over three million doses of the vaccine have been delivered in Wales and, over the weekend, another important milestone was reached with over a million people having had their second dose and are fully protected.

“This is a remarkable achievement in such a short space of time. I am extremely grateful to all our NHS colleagues and all the volunteers across Wales whose continuous hard work and dedication is making our excellent progress through our Covid-19 vaccination programme possible.”

Mrs Morgan also said the Welsh Government is “continuing to carefully monitor the so-called India variant in Wales”, and said its emergence “is a reminder that Covid-19 has not gone away and that it’s really important to take up the offer of vaccination when it is your turn, including getting the second dose, when offered, to maximise protection”.
