Management at the Argos store in Caerphilly town centre have thanked staff members past and present for their hard work and dedication, as well as the community for its support, after the store closed its doors for the last time.

The store, at Castle Court Shopping Centre, closed earlier this month, having opened in 1995 after the shopping precinct was built.

It follows the permanent closure of the Argos store on Blackwood High Street last year.

The company was bought by Sainsbury’s in 2016.

A Sainsbury’s spokesperson previously told Caerphilly Observer there are plans to open 350 more Argos stores and collection points within its current supermarket sites by March 2024.

In total, 420 Argos stores will have closed across the UK by 2024 – leaving around 100 standalone stores.

Changing times as Argos officially opens at Sainsbury’s Pontllanfraith

Last month, an Argos concession opened at the Sainsbury’s store in Pontllanfraith.

Markham boxer Kody Davies had the honour of opening the new store within a store alongside staff members who transferred over from the Blackwood store – including manager Deb Duggan.

Mrs Duggan, who had worked at the Argos in Blackwood for 25 years, said there had been no job losses with some staff redeployed to work in the supermarket.
