A paramotorist who was taken to hospital after crashing on Gelligaer Common last week has thanked the emergency service workers who rescued him.

The Welsh Ambulance Service and its Hazardous Area Response Team (HART), as well as the Central Beacons Mountain Rescue Team, were called to the scene on Thursday, May 27.

In a post on its Facebook page, the Central Beacons Mountain Rescue Team said it was contacted by Gwent Police to help with the incident, which happened near Deri.

A paramotor is similar to a paraglider, but has a motor attached to it.

The Mountain Rescue Team said the paramotorist was “medically treated by HART and fully immobilised in a vacuum mattress before being placed on an MR stretcher”.

The paramotorist was then taken by ambulance to the major trauma centre in Cardiff to be assessed.

The Facebook post added: “South Wales Fire and Rescue Service was present, as well a multiagency response – ensuring the casualty received the best possible treatment.

“We hope his injuries aren’t found to be too severe and wish him a speedy recovery.”

Commenting on the Facebook post the day after the accident, Robert Kerr said: “Guys I’ve just got home from the hospital as it was me that came down in my paramotor.

“I want to a say a massive thanks to every single rescue service who helped me last night, you all do an amazing job.

“Lucky I only came out with a little cut on my head and bruising, no broken bones. How I don’t know – crashing into ground from 25ft.

“Once again thank you all for your A1 response and helping me. Much love.”
