Business eviction ban extended until next year

Businesses struggling to pay their rent will be protected from eviction until March next year.

The eviction ban was set to come to an end in September, but Wales’ Economy Minister, Vaughan Gething, has announced it will now be extended until March 25.

It has been introduced to help businesses affected by the coronavirus pandemic.

Making the announcement on Thursday, August 26, Mr Gething said the measure “will protect businesses from eviction and will help secure jobs and livelihoods across Wales”.

He added: “It will also give the same levels of protection in this respect for Welsh businesses as those in England, and will assist with the recovery of Welsh businesses as the economy improves.

“We remain committed to backing Welsh firms as we kick-start a strong Welsh recovery post-pandemic.”

Despite the eviction ban, busineses are still encouraged to pay rent if they are able to.

Since the pandemic began, more than £2.5bn has been given to businesses across Wales by the Welsh Government, in addition to support provided by the UK Government.
