Gerwyn Price has won his fourth PDC European Tour title after he beat Michael Smith 8-2 in the Hungarian Darts Trophy final on Sunday, September 5.

World number one Price, from Markham, lifted the trophy in front of 4,500 fans in Budapest – claiming a £25,000 prize in the process.

Price entered the competition on Saturday, where he defeated Dutchman Richard Veenstra 6-4 in the second round.

He then defeated Australia’s Damon Heta 6-4 in the third round, before another 6-4 win in the quarter-finals against Northern Ireland’s Brendan Dolan.

Price then averaged over 107 in the semi-finals as he defeated Englishman Luke Humphries 7-4 to reach the final.

There, Price averaged 108.74 as he brushed aside world number nine Smith to win the title – the first title to be held in Hungary.

Following the win, Price said: “To pick up the trophy in the first time here is fantastic.

“Michael played fantastic in the whole tournament – I was scraping through and played my best stuff in the semi-final and final, so I’m thankful for that.

“It’s good to have crowds back. I appreciate the support today, everyone’s been fantastic.

“Playing behind closed doors is not the same, without the fans darts isn’t darts but thankfully they’re all back.”

Smith said: “He was relentless – it’s hard to break down when someone’s not missing. He was fantastic against Luke and again in the final.”

The second PDC European Tour of the year will be the Gibraltar Darts Trophy, which will be held between September 24 and September 26.
