Work has begun on a £14m project that will merge Llancaeach Junior and Llanfabon Infant schools onto a single site.
Under the scheme, the Llanfabon site will be extended and refurbished to accommodate all 275 pupils aged three to 11, along with a new 24-place childcare unit.
Children currently taught at the Llancaeach Junior site will relocate to new classrooms at the expanded location once construction is complete.
The project is being jointly funded by Caerphilly County Borough Council and the Welsh Government through its Sustainable Communities for Learning Programme.
Building firm Andrew Scott Ltd has been appointed as the main contractor for the development.
Mark Bowen, managing director at Andrew Scott Ltd, said the contractor would work to create local employment and apprenticeship opportunities during the build.
Cllr Jamie Pritchard, leader of the council, said the ‘state-of-the-art’ development was part of wider investment in local schools across the county borough.
