Reigning champions Wales were knocked out of the World Cup of Darts in the semi-final stage following defeat against eventual-champions Scotland.

Wales were represented by world number one Gerwyn Price, from Markham, and Premier League champion Jonny Clayton.

However, the duo were unable to overcome Peter Wright and John Henderson, who came away with a 2-1 win to set up a final against Austria’s Mensur Suljovic and Rowby-John Rodriguez.

Wales opened their title defence on Thursday night with a 5-2 win over Finland, before beating Lithuania on Friday night.

Wales then beat Australia’s Damon Heta and Simon Whitlock in the quarter-finals on Saturday before losing to Scotland.

After the defeat, Price said he was “absolutely gutted” but congratulated Wright and Henderson, as well as thanking his supporters and sponsors.

Absolutely gutted to lose in the semi but massive congratulations to Peter and John, always proud to represent my county with my great mate @JonnyClay9 thanks to all the support and my sponsors @OfficialPDC @reddragondarts @TuffStuff_UK @MarshallGroup @valleywaterserv
