Residents asked for their views on potential 153-home development

Residents have been asked for their views on plans to build 153 homes on the site of the former Windsor Colliery in Abertridwr.

Fourteen of the homes, which could be built near Ysgol Ifor Bach, would be classed as affordable.

Forty-six would be sold on the open market, while 49 would be available for social rent and 44 would be shared ownership.

Caerphilly-based housing association United Welsh is behind the plans, and has asked planning consultants Asbri Planning to carry out a pre-application consultation – which basically means getting people’s views before a formal application is submitted.

The developer has not yet applied to Caerphilly County Borough Council for planning permission, and can only legally do so after the consultation.

The site of the development, according to the documents prepared by Asbri Planning, is within the development boundary set out in the council’s adopted Local Development Plan – a blueprint for the area. This means it has already been designated an area where housing can go.

The colliery closed in 1986, with the site now classed as greenfield.

According to the design and access statement, work was carried out on the site back in 2007 to prepare it for a future development.

The development would span roughly 3.2 hectares in size.

All drawings, reports and documents relating to the plans can be viewed online.

Residents without internet access can view the plans at Abertridwr Library, but will have to book an appointment in advance.

Appointments can be booked by contacting the library on 02920 830790 or libatrid@caerphilly.gov.uk.
